Engine dies 'sometimes' when put in Reverse???
Hey all,
Here's the Scenario:
My '99 is all warmed up and has been idling for a few minutes 'cause it's frickin' freezing here in Michigan. So I hop in, put it in Reverse and the engine pukes. I start it right back up and am able to back up and head out with no problem.
Here's the question:
It seems like the engine is not compensating for the load of being shifted into gear quickly enough to prevent it from stalling? The wierd thing is that this NEVER happens when putting it into Drive! The tranny is smooth as silk so it's not dying due to a "tranny-slam" type problem.
I just don't get it. I have NO erratic idle issues, no power issues, no CEL lights, no other notable issues that could be associated with this problem to the best of my knowledge.
Any thoughts on what could cause this strange behavior?
Thanks,
TVB

I had the exact problem with mine. It had no check engine light. It turned out to be the fuel pump relay. Replaced the relay and haven't had a problem in 4 years. I think you could pull out the relay and check it with a muti-meter.
