Automatic door locks
I read in the owner's manual (after 10 years of owning the D) that the dealer has a way of activating the 'automatic' door locks that will engage the locks at 15 mph. Anyone know how to do that without going back to the dealer?
Keep reading! I think it is in there...
EDIT: Found this online... I used it for mine...

Here is a statement taken from WikiAnswers link to Remotes and Keys.com for this vehicle. Dodge Durango 1998
Factory Keyless Remote:
This vehicle is not onboard programmable. This means that you can not perform programming yourself. Go to an automotive locksmith for programming. Click on the picture of your remote above.
I guess I'm SOL unless I go to the dealer. I can just imagine what they would charge.

Not a Durango Key Fob??? I guess the factory must have made a mistake when they issued it along with the new vehicle in 1998. I have tried the ignition on/off thing several times without any results. I'm not sure what else to do.
Yea, someone made a mistake. As far as I know they all looked like this but perhaps the 1998 as the first year was a bastard-type: http://www.durangoclub.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=96044

We at the Durango Owners Club often give away key Fob covers with the club name and/or event name and date to the members who attend our events. Always we have used the later of those two designs. Either the 1998 folks always loose out and never say anything or there were both styles used.
Again, I have never seen a D with the top one, but doesn't mean they didn't leave it as a bastard style and moved on to something else. The later style was indeed used from 1999-2003 then they went to a Fob-in-a-key design that are not backwards compatible.
Good luck.
