Hi everybody. my 2001 durango has 3.55s and when i'm in 4wd, it hums like a bad gearset, until the 4wd is turned off. Wouldn't a bad front gearset hum all the time? It only hums when there is acceleration or deceleration load. coasting in neutral, I can hardly hear it. I'm really stumped on this one. Fluids are new, and proper fill. Any help would be awsome!!

 

I can almost guarantee it is something in the transfer case.

 

yup sounds like it, especially if its only when the 4wd is engaged

 

I have the same issue I just don't have the time to get to it right now. I will probably rebuild it this summer and if not then definitely in the fall. It only happens in 4 low and I think it is a bearing.
