Default Chime after starting?

I have a 2000 Durango. Sometimes, moments after starting the vehicle and shifting into gear, there comes a single chime. Just one ding... no lights or any other indicators, just a ding.
My seatbelts are on, no doors are open, nothing else that I can see wrong.
What the heck is that?

Could be one of your other lights such as a check engine light, perhaps the bulb is just burnt out. Goto Autozone and have them pull the codes for you for free.

Nice, I could have a burnt out CEL? HAHA! That seems quite counter productive.

If you turn the ignition key switch to the on position just before the starter engages all the warning lights should light up=that should tell you if your engine mil light works=atleast my 99 d does this.

When I turn the key to on, the lights all come on... including the CEL. So I don't think that is the problem.
Neo 1130, that is exactly what happens to me.
Does anyone know what causes this?

CF:

Could be the starting symptoms of a failing CTM. This module, located behind the drivers footwell kick panel controls several things such as chimes, wipers, lights, etc.

When it begins to demise, weird things start to happen.

In my case, it was the same ding you speak of, but more than once. The interior lights would also come on by themselves, as well as the rear wiper seemed to have mind of its own coming on at its own choosing.

The module is a dealer only part, and they get around $500 to install and program it.

It also controls your keyless entry.

You should have the battery load tested because if there is a bad cell grounding it can do that.

Also check you battery connections.

An electronic Central Timer Module (CTM) similar to those used on Dakota control a variety of electrical/electronic features. The CTM makes effective use of the multiplex wiring network to meet customer needs while reducing the number of wiring connections and simplifying the wiring system for reliability. The CTM provides the following functions:

A pleasant chime warning for the following conditions: key-in-ignition when the driver's door is open, headlamps-on when driver's door is open, seat belt warning, check engine, air bag, antilock brakes (when installed), check gauges, low fuel and low washer fluid
Two warning repetition rates: 50 chimes per minute for reminders and 180 chimes per minute for serious conditions requiring immediate attention:
— The serious-condition (high rate) tone sounds when the key is left in the ignition or the headlamps are left on
— The reminder (low rate) tone occurs when any of the other conditions are present
— Warnings of a serious conditions take precedence over reminders
Variable warning chime duration
— Key-in-ignition and headlamp chime operate continuously as long as the door is open
Ignition key lamp timer
Intermittent wiper time delay
Courtesy lamp time delay
Battery protection system
— If the ignition is off and any door or the liftgate is left open, interior illumination will terminate after 15 minutes to avoid discharging the battery. If interior lamps are turned on with the dome lamp switch and the ignition is off, interior illumination will also terminate after 15 minutes
Vehicle speed-sensitive intermittent windshield wiper delay
The CTM also supports the following available features which are described in the Safety and Security section:
Power door lock system control including Enhanced Accident Response system, automatic locking and power lock inhibit
Available remote keyless entry system with "Panic" alarm and illuminated entry feature
Available vehicle theft alarm system
The CTM module is mounted to the right of the glove compartment, concealed by the instrument panel skin.
