Default New to The Dodge world

OK, so i am new to the world of gas dodges.. i have done my share of work on 12v mechanical injected cummins but the gasser is killin me!!!! i have a 00 durango that had a 4.7L in it. Well after a day of off-roadin im in need of a new engine haha..... i mananged to snap 2 rods and there is a quarter sized notch out of one of the cyl walls.. but anyway... i have been having a hard time findin a 4.7 in my area and was wondering what all i would have to change to get a 318 to fit... i was told i would have to change the tranny, and front end.. but i am not sure how reliable of a source it was from... but like i said im new to the dodge gassers and i can use all kindsa help. thanks

that information is at least partly true, Dodge used a 4 spd auto behind the 3.9/5.2/5.9 series engines, and a 5 speed auto behind the 4.7, so if you want a 5.2(318) you will need at least the enginge and transmission, im not sure about the rest of the front end, i would assuem its fine.

but IMO if you need a new engine anyways, now is a perfect time for a 5.7 hemi swap(uses the same tranny as the 4.7 ) or maybe consider a 3.9 cummins

Boy it sounds like you had fun on the trails till you blew her apart. By the way if you plan on being hard on it I would recommend getting the 46RE transmission, it is the stronger of the 3... those being 42/44/46RE
