Default GASS

Hi guys im new to the forum I was searching around about the topic of gas mileage I found a few posts I hope no one gets mad that im posting again about this but the reason for it is my case is much more extreme I am only getting about 8 mpg when I read someone was compalning about 13mpg I would love to get 13 mpg does anyone know what could cause such horrible gas mileage on mine its a 98 5.2 I just baught it and took it to my mechanic and he said change the air filter and I did but thats all he said was wrong. I also know its not how im driving because I dont even go too fast any more becuase when I punch it on the accelarator I only get about 6mpg and gas is killing me.

Try hitting the reset button on your overhead console, sometimes if you reset them they read differently, its almost as if they are recalibrating themselves. The only other thing I say you can do is transplant a 1998 Neon engine in ya truck, I hear those badboys kick and still have good gas mileage LOL

do you have alot of extra weight in your vehicle that you dont need?

that might make ur gas milage not to great

are your tires properly inflated

Nope not the calibration each time I fill up I reset the little consol computer. My tires are inflated to the proper PSI and there is no extra weight in the truck it is empty. Any other suggestions. Neon engens wont work.

I have no idea of the exact MPG I get. (better than 8mpg!) I wish I had one of those overhead computers to tell me... If your looking to improve gas mileage; change your spark plugs/wires (Bosh Platinum +4), change your oil, put a less restrictive exhaust on your truck, and make sure all your sensors are working properly (o2, TPS, ETC.). You can change your drivetrain fluids if they have never been changed. (try synthetic)

Instead of relying on the computer, I have one too, If you actually do your own calc. when you fill up mark you mileage after you fill again mark your mileage and do the math you will get a different number than the puter. I did, was like 5 mpg different.
