Default Rear Tranny seal

Anyone have any experience on the 46RE tranny removing transfer case and replacing the rear tranny seal? I have a pretty significant leak (losing 1-2 quarts/mo.) and I'm sure it is coming from between where the transfer case and tranny meet. Pulling the transfer case doesn't look bad, but I have 150K miles on this thing and I tow a 4200 lb. boat with it so I am wondering if it is worth replacing the tranny or just fixing the seal. No significant tranny problems yet, just leaking fluid.

Suggestions? Comments?

Thanks. . .BTW: great little forum you have here!

I had that same seal replaced for $200 at the transmission shop.

Welcome!

I'd pull it and change it out. Do a filter and band adjustment while in there.
