Well I can't upload it here so I will submit it to a file hosting site..

PDF file on speed control from service manual. It gives you diagnosing procedures.

Default Troubleshooting guide request

I have a 2000 Dakota Quad Cab and the cruise control has started shutting of by itself and sometimes can't be turned back on. Can someone please repost the troubleshooting guide? Thank you in advance for your assistance, this forum looks very helpful.

start by checking all the connections you can access, especially the ones at the brake light switch, the cruise control module (under the hood) and the TPS, and keep in mind this is the durango section, not the dakota section, you might get more hits if you make a new thread in the 2nd gen dakota section

that said we will try to help you with this, but we need more information, engine, drivetrain, mileage, any electrical changes made recently, any CEL codes, any idiot lights on in the dash??? will all help us to help you

this should be the entire section on the crusie control from the 02 service manual, it may not be an exact match to your truck tho so be careful

please move this to the appropriate area.

2000 dodge dakota

if your cruise doesn't work, your airbag light is on, and your horn still works ... this maybe your problem.
the copper plate is for the horn and the adjacent copper pin is the contact which is not a part of the clockspring 'tape wiring'. hence why the horn still works.

the other pics show the 'tape wiring' severed. to test the clockspring i isolated by disconnecting the clockspring and continuity testing the connections from the backside to the cruise switches and to the airbag plug. completely open on all counts.
i'll post the pics in my profile as i cant seem to post them in this board.

Default My Fix

I know this thread is 10 years old BUT some people like me search them for help with a current problem. I purchased a 99 Durango 5.9 Light would sometimes come on when I hit the cruise switch and then would immediately go off. Because I have way too many spares laying around I started swapping obvious parts rather then testing thoroughly. Switches, didn't fix it, clock spring didn't fix it BUT the PCM did. Fortunately I had another 99 Durango PCM laying around plugged it in. And everything works perfectly. Unplugged it and hooked old one back up just to see if it might me a connection issue. NO worky. So PCM can cause all of these issues. Finding one can be hard. Not sure if I would of had mine "reflowed" if that would of fixed it but, I saved my old one because everything else is working and most Durango owners now the PCM will go out some day most likely . And I have had very good luck having them repaired.
