timing is controlled by the computer and not really adjustable. its probably skipping on a cylinder. check plugs, wires, rotor, cap.

Need to do a tuneup if you have not done so in a long time..
Champion plugs (just the cheap ones will work fine, stay away from platinum)

(if not a 4.7L, no plug wires)
8MM wires or 8.5MM

Cap/rotor with brass or copper contacts (Napa or leading brand, don't buy the cheapest)

Run a bottle of fuel injector cleaner thew it.

Clean out the throttle body..

Replace air filter..

Clean battery terminals real good (wire brush works great, just take the terminals all the way off and do a good job)

You do all that and you still have issues then we can be able to narrow it down more.

any error codes (check engine light on???) try the keydance trick to pull any codes that might be there (even if the light is off it can still have codes sitting there) and let us know what they codes are if there are any

and my old truck had a misfire which made it shake like crazy (3.9L dak) and it did NOT feel like it had lost any power, the misfire was caused by bad plug wires (brand new) out of the box so if it showed up right after changing wires or doing something like that try UN-doing it temporarily to see if the problem goes away and if so take back the part you changed and get your money back

I've seen bad wires out of the box as well.

Got to love that quality control they have in foreign countries... getting just as bad here anymore though to tell you the truth.
