Default HUGE PROBLEM! need help ASAP!

Heres the problem i have a 2000 durango SLT 2wd with the 5.2 and on the coolant hose by the thermostat it busted open so we had to replace the coolant hose. We replaced it today with a brand new hose and thermostat and so i went to drive it and the car is overheating really quick and the engine is making a noise. It stalls out when i put it in reverse or drive. any idea whats going on ? it drove fine before the coolant hose broke.

Had the same problem with 01 D with a 4.7. Same hose busted and did same repairs you did, new hose, thermostat and all.. Drove fine for couple weeks then one day she started run hot again and is skipping. This just happened couple days ago .I think the water pump quit flowing because the reservoir was still full but motor was empty. And would boil over when I tired to put water in it. Right now I am thinking blown head gasket, but havent pulled anythign apart to inspect..

But I joined here to get some info on the 4.7 before tearing it down...

if the head gasket is blown that would explain the noise in the engine and it stalling out ?

Check for proper coolent flow through the water pump and back to radiator. Also you may have installed a faulty tstat or lodged a chunk of crap in the t-stat. Try removing the tsat and inspect it. If it looks ok, run the engine without the t-stat installed in the line and see if it overheats on you. Do not drive the vehicle like this because the engine will cool faster then normal and your emission sensors will not function correctly.

My guess: wrong T-stat or defective t-stat.

If you used silicone (RTV) with the gasket on the T-stat housing, make sure you have not obstructed the opening or leaked any debris including RTV into the intake manifold or T-stat housing.

well i desided to take it for a drive today again and drove it about 3 miles to mcdonalds. It ran fine without and issues just alittle rough idle but on the way back it made the same engine noise and overheated really quick again. I know its not the thermostat because we changed it out and whenever the engine starts making the noise it overheats. any ideas cause im out of them

Sounds like a stuck T-stat, at this point I would suggest that you have it looked at.

Take it to the dealer or qualified shop for a 'flush & fill' including a new tstat. It could also be an obstruction in the radiator.
