To get a accurate response it is always best to list your vehicle in your post. Such as year, engine. This way we know what we are dealing with.
The answer is yes, there is a switch on the transmission called the Park/Neutral position switch (sometimes called park safty switch). again would need year and engine to point you toward the exact part for your truck.
Is it hard to change? well it can be a pain because it is in an area that is hard to get a socket/ratchet up into. a shorty wrench is very useful for this, I forget the exact size but i know it was an inch or bigger wrench.

not sure about yours, but on my 46re it on drivers side, towards the front, behind the linkage. its sort of hard to get at. its not expensive, something like $15-20.
are you sure yours is bad ? check fuse ?

Thanks for your replies. I checked the fuses and don't see one for the backup lights. I suspect it's the switch but since it's not "critical" I think I'll just live with it.
