Power steering problem
OK, I've read through others' problems with their power steering, and none of them sound quite like mine, so here goes.
I'm working on a 2002 Durango with the 4.7 (it belongs to my brother-in-law). Driving down the road for awhile, it it feels like some (not all) of the power assist for the steering disappears. No noise, no particular speed it happens, and revving it up doesn't seem to help. But it is so intermittent I can't swear to that. The wheel is harder to turn, but not impossible, just a lot stiffer so to speak. The belt looks fine and tight.
I checked the pressure switch, and no leakage there like some other folks. Fluid was slightly low so I topped it off (it was red in the reservoir so I used ATF+4) and lifted the front end and turned it lock-to-lock a few times to make sure there was no air, and still nothing. Same occasional stiffness after driving a few miles, and it comes and goes.
It feels like a pump, I just haven't ever seen a PS pump go sorta bad rather than all bad all at once.
Any help guys??

Sounds like a pump.
Change out the fluid and install new. Hydrolically specking, the fluid CAN lose pressure properties, but still it sounds like a pump.
"Low pump pressure" or "internal gear leak" according to the manual on that year.
