After 7 years finally something happened!
Bought my Durango brand new and just today something finally happened.
On my way home on the freeway, I heard a couple of pops while on cruise control. Took it off and several more pops and then I started losing power, the RPM climb to 4.5K so I shift to neutral. Tried to shift back into drive but had no power train. I noticed before the oil guage showed no pressure and still had enough speed to make it into the right shoulder. Now when I try starting it, the engine just turns over. I know the starter is o.k. Couple of times I"ll hear the enging trying to catch. but will hear some "poofing" so I think the timing chain is o.k. Check guages light is off and engine light goes off when I start the D. Cables to the coil and distrubutor are still connected. Any ideas?

While waiting for tow truck I tried starting again 10 minutes later. The Durango start right up and ran for about 15 seconds. Normal start up, normal run. Oil pressure built up. All o.k. until I press the 'gas' pedal. Saw dried up antifreeze around the radiator cap. Took the cap off and started the D up again. Saw no antifreeze flow so now wondering if the radiator is empty and or water pump gave out. I just finished with a 150 mile trip back into Phoenix.
If it really overheats, the D will go into "Limp-Mode". Get some fluids in there and see.
Look straight down on the t-stat. If residue there from a fluid leak, replace the stat and gasket. That's a common point of failure.
If it is the low fluid/high heat condition... you should have seen it raise on the temp gauge. Here's hoping nothing went bad from there!
