Default system in a durango?

hey guys,
im new here trying to find sum info to help my gf out.
so heres the deal, shes got a 2001 durango with the inifinity system, but she decided that she wants a sub, so we found a nice 12" sub and amp to put in, my question is: can this be wired into the stock stereo without changing anything with the stock system, shes not able to get a aftermarket deck.
thanks

Yes you can do it ,but won't sound great. That's all on you though. Anyway, you need a low-level output adapter (walmart around 10-15) This will be hooked to speaker wires from one of her speakers. The adapeter will then convert the signal from one containing wattage to one containing voltage that the amp will be able to use. You will have quality lose but I understand that's not the biggest issue right now. Good luck

I have succsessfully done this in a customer's , it does not sound that bad but make sure the adapter is a booster requiring power Also hook signal from left and right speakers to gain optimum A/C signal from them this will work much better. Why not a after market deck? Wheel control's? In the U.S. should be able to do aftermarket cheap. Good luck!

I thought the infinity systems in durangos uses low level output as default as it has a separate amp?

holy crap watch your butt on this one, i added a 350 watt amp for my mids and highs and a 750 watt for my subs. little did i know once i hooked my small amp up and turned the key my dash started smoking(dumb i know). i had no clue there was a pre amp in my passenger kicker panel. well needless to say with a lot of rewiring and about 5 hours, everything works fine now, im just minus the stock preamp, careful careful, lol.

I know this is late, but I thought I would throw my bit in. I run a 1000 watt amp back to two jl 15's using the splitter in dash and have used this setup at audio competitiions and never had a problem using the factory head unit. I am replacing it though this summer anyway because I am redoing all the speakers in the car. I do have the infinity now though. Severl companies make setups that will still allow you to use the steering wheel controls anyway.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I HAVE THE ANSWER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!
Underneth the front passenger kickplate (plastic molding under the glovebox) there is an amp. Connected to the amp are two groupings of wires. One of the groupings includes two white wires. This is the input (the one u want to use) now take one of the white wires the one with the red stripe on it and connect it to ur RC cable to the red side and do the same for the black RC to the white with black wire. now run those wires under the step plates under the doors. now there is a green wire on the output side, it has a red stripe on it, this is ur REMOTE wire. U take that wire and splice it to ur remote wire and run it next to the RC cable. At the point of splicing u should probably sodder it. To ensure its stablility. Now what u have done was run your left and right channels (UNamplified) to the back and ur remote cable that only sees' power when ur stereo is on. Now when runnining the remote make sure that u get the green cable with the red stipe on it from the OPPOSITE SIDE of the white wires. Cuz if u dont than ur amp will think it needs to be on all the time... and ur batt will DIE. lol i know cuz i did it
