Default A couple of Comments, and a couple of questions

Hi All,

Posted a number of months back about stalling issues with my 2003 R/T. Those issues were solved, and were traced back to electrical issues (Cap/Rotor/Wires/Coil). Since then the truck has been running well getting 13 MPG in the city, and 15 - 16 Highway, not great, but average.

First off with the questions. Had the truck in last week to the dealer for a fuel system flush. 2000 KM later (and away from my house), the truck died on the highway. Had it towed into a shop, and found that the fuel pump had given up. The mechanic showed me the pump and the filter was caked in black residue. The outside of the pump was also coated in what seemed to be a fine charcoal residue. Basically, I had no fuel going to the engine. Question here is has anyone seen/heard of this happening? I am not sure if it was just time, or if it was something the dealer added to the tank. The mechanic said he looked in the tank and it was clean with no residue, and the fuel was clean, so I am at a loss (and a loss of $700). Now a comment. Found that with the new pump/filter, my mileage went up to 19-20 MPG. I was pretty impressed by the gains.

Second question. I cannot find anywhere the instructions, or part for the auxillary pump for the rear seat heating. Does anyone know what the part number is, or how to remove/re-install it? The dealer wants $300 + to replace it, but it seems simple enough to do.

Thanks!

Never heared of black residue. Sounds like a classic bull story to get you to come back to the stealership. Now possibly the filter on a pump station you've been getting gas at might be bad and sent the crap in there but unless you get your fuel from ma and pa shops then yu should be ok. Also don't get gas when a taker is filling the tanks at the station. After like 130,000 miles on my rig my pump went out but it was just brown dust like crap......Sand?...... But not black!

Pump for the rear heat? I'm confused????? Are you talking about electric heated seats or the heater that heats the air for the rear?

I wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't seen the pump with my own two eyes. I am thinking that it was something that was in the tank prior to my purchasing the vehicle. I live on the prairies, and took my truck out west to the mountains. I think the up & down may have churned up something in the tank (I bought the truck from a disgruntled divorcee!) Either way it's running well now.

As far as the pump, I have the heat controls for the back seat. Last winter I noticed there was no heat back there. I took it to the stealership and they said there was an auxiallary pump which circulated the coolant to the heater-core in the rear quater of the truck. They said the pump was getting power, but the pump itself was fubar'd and needed replacement. Can't seem to locate any information on this.

Could this be the pump you were looking for? I've heard nothing about it until this point either and had guessed the pump would be in the back of the truck. This looks as if it would be pretty straight forward though!

Yeah looking at the part listing/description I suspect this is in fact the part I am looking for. When I get a chance I will post a picture of the pump so you can see in all its glory how truly effed up it was

Here are the pics of the pump. Note the clean white filter in picture1, and the grimy outside of the pump in the second photo.
