Cool Very bizzare !! Won't start and no gas gage!!

my son left on vacation and i went to start his 2002 durango up so the battery wouldn't go dead from non - driving and all of a sudden the car
just turns over and won't startup like its out of gas... well i look at the gas gage and sure enough it reads empty doesn't move at all..
my son said he left it with a half of tank, so i figured someone might have
sifted the gas out...but when i put 5 gallons back into it from a gas can,
the car started right up and the gage read 1/4 tank..so i figured i was ok..
2 hours later i go to drive the truck and "BAM"...the same thing happens again and there is no fuel leaking on the floor that i can tell....any suggestions..

Fuel won't leak on the floor. Let her sit, or floor it to start it if flooded.

What motor are we working on?

After reading it a few times i think (just thinking here) perhaps the poster was suggesting that there was no evidence of fuel leaking onto the "ground" when saying "floor".

Well did you put more then 5 gallons in? another words did you goto the gas station and put fuel in? Because these engines get horrible fuel mileage and 5 gallons could be gone in 2 hours "EASY". I suggest adding more fuel then filling it up and see if that helps.

Could very well be a bad connection to the fuel pump!

Check the harness which means dropping the tank so you might as well replce the pump anyway.

I would guess that your issue lies with the pump. I suspect this as the pump, filter, and sender unit (for the gauge), are all in one unit in tht tank. If the pump is on its way out, you may get fuel pressure for a bit, but it will cut out. The fact that the fuel guage wasn't reading correctly would also suggest the sender unit opposed to the dash guage itself. Just my two cents.

Yep

I'd replace it as well.
