Default Vibration 2003 Durango

I have had a problem with my 2003 Durango vibrating at high speeds for a while now. Originally I noticed the vibration at 75+ miles per hour. I had 60,000 miles on the tires and figured that was the problem and bought new tires. Never really tested to see if the new tires fixed the problem; wish I did. Now I have about 20,000 miles on the new tires and noticed vibration at 70+ miles per hour. I had the tires rebalanced and installed new shocks. Still have the problem. I think it is getting worse. Any suggestions of what to do?

Well the tires could be out of balance now with 20,000 miles on them (even if they rebalanced them) adnormal wear? wear on the ouuter or inner of any tires? tires have any cupping to them?

Really hard to say since you did not test them at high speeds till 20,000 miles. I personally say its the tires
Here is a good guid
http://www.procarcare.com/includes/c...dtirewear.html

Most tire ware is cuase of some type of wheel alignement. We all know about the poor bushing and bad ball joints on these vehicles. perhaps you may need to look at them closer as well.

Default Thanks

Thanks for the response. I checked the guide that you recommended and I noticed that I defiantly have feathering on my front tires; now in the back since rotating. I am now thinking that I may need a front end alignment, what do you think?

That's what I was going to say, was a alignment. Like ^schusterjo^ said do you have any abnormal ware?

Okay well if ya have feathering as the guid says its cuase of bad bushings, an alignment would help but not cure the problem. bushings probably need replaced. if ya going to do those may as well do ball joints..
By the way how many miles does ur rig have on it?
have you ever had the ball joints replaced?
bushings replaced?
how mechanically inclined are you?
2WD or 4WD?

I have 79,500 miles on my truck and it is 4WD. Have never had any work done to the front end. Can usually complete any project I start, but not sure if I want to deal with the bushings. I may just have it done by a shop. I am going to an alignment shop tomorrow. I will see what they say. I will post their comments and whatever I decide to do. Still taking in info and trying to decide what to do.

designman882,

You may be in luck then as you have the 4WD. There is a front end ball joint recall for the 2000-2003 4WD's. So take it to the dealer to get the ball joints replaced.

Not all were included in that recall my 03 R/T was not included but I put a set of moogs top and bottom with grease fittings, first oil change they put them into the system and that they were replaced by the dealer even though they weren't. Didn't matter cuz I had lifetime warranty at the place I had them installed.

To be accurate for other readers who come upon this thread, all Durango 4x4 Upper BJs were covered under a NHTSA SAFETY IMPROVEMENT CAMPAIGN recall from 2000-2003. If you choose to do the bottoms at the same time, usually that was on your own if your factory warranty had already expired.
