Hughes Custom Performance Intake Manifold
Anyone read about this new intake from Hughes? They got alot of good reviews. Other than the power gained, owners of this intake are reporting a BIG mpg improvement if you can keep your foot off the pedal.
This will hopefully be my next upgrade starting the 2010 year when I get my income tax refund!

I say $599.99 is not bad if you get BOTH power and mpg increase!
Heck, I paid $299.99 just for the hypertech programmer so I can use regular 87 oct vs 91 oct.
I would buy this intake mainly for the big MPG improvement as I only avg 9-11 mpg driving in the residential areas and 12-14 highway with 12 mpg overall. If I can get really good mpg on my truck, I would go back to being a daily driver on this truck instead of driving my little jetta.

Price is okay as a complete kit. Not great, but not a total rip off.

I wonder why it is differently shaped under the TB to the cylinder? (cant think of the name of that
) The M1 is the same on all four corners. Actually, the Hughes is the same on 2 and different on the other 2. Hummm.
Also, why the runner in between the TB? Open would flow much better I would think but it does eliminate the need for a turtle. Seems/looks like overkill and a drag on the intake actually.

I think that runner is just an adaptor to adapt the oem throttlebody to the intake manifold, otherwise, looks like the manifold is setup for 4 barrel carb instead of throttle body?
I found this in this mornings Deseret Paper (Utah Rides) but could not find a link to it so I typed the artical so here it is!
The parts Dept crew recently built and tested a 5.9-leter (360-cubic inch) that made 527 horsepower at 6300 rpm using a Edelbrock Performer RPM Air Gap intake manifold (as well as a matching cylinder heads and a healthy roller camshaft. The peak horsepower and torque output (474 ft) compared with the larger 7.0-leter engine found in the benchmark Chev Corvette ZO6. It’s actually a very basic pump-gas-friendly combination (9.8:1 compression) that performed better than it did using a race-bred intake manifold in terms of peak power while delivering more torque and using less fuel in the process. What could be better? The NASCAR Edition Performer RPM Air Gap, of course, which has a smooth black finish as opposed to the usual rough cast finish. I talked about this manifold about a year ago and it looks as if they finally made a working replica and included the mounting bores and risers to the upper intake. I really dislike the new upgrade of the TB mount (yes they used the intake of a regular air gap) getting the TB up high and funneled it like a paperweight (Throttle Body Spacer) in regards to it's functionality. The fact that Edelbrock would even put it's name to something like that is really unheard of? Like I said, that is nothing else but a Edelbrock Air-Gap Intake with a special TB funnel and mounting hardware bores and risers.
The air intake appears to be the same for the "runners" on all ports as the inner are lower sitting and uppers are high drop. You can see there isn't a open barrel so I would assume it would work. I do like the friendly install hardware risers and overall functionality limited to ease of installation. Although over priced....IMHO.... In comparison, regular Edelbrock Intake Manifolds are about $300 shipped or less. Maybe a nice phone call to them is in store.
I threw one of these in a few weeks back.. hughes engine guys seem to know a thing or two.. some of the reviews on their f1 airgap intake manifold page seem a little bull tho.. all the same.. I do mostly city driving and the new manifold may have hurt the city mpg a hair.. just a hair tho.. highway driving my mpg has gained quite a bit.. i can get about 30+ more miles on a tank when on the highway.. I did wanna dog on this manifold a little bit more but i tow my boat every so often and i can literally feel the power i still got.. when towing the d holds its revs alot longer.. stock manifold pulls hard until about 2000rpms.. this manifold doesnt really kick in until 2000 rpms..
All in all i think this was a worth while upgrade.. the 318 and 360 hurt on air intake so any improvement gets a big gain.. It also feels great to have the power to pull hard when passing on those 2 lane highways.. even with the boat behind me i'm passing the less fortunate..

The Hughes one is pretty much the same. It comes with all the gaskets and fittings required. The only ugly part about the Hughes one is the throttle body mount.. kinda stupid how its separate but in the end it works out great..
It works I just don't like how the old air gap was modified. They should have done a better design.
i think the design and functionality of the Edelbrock is much better but glad to see you like the results. Now you need a new bored TB and ram air CIA to go with it?
