Brake caliper failure!
Took our new to us 02 R/T to the mountains this weekend for a getaway. We got there without any problems and had a blast going through the windy mountain passes with it... This thing handles like a go cart! Went shopping on Friday afternoon and noticed that the D wasn't acting right.... very sluggish. A few miles later I smelled burning brakes and saw smoke coming from Right front wheel! Immediately pulled into a parking lot and sure enough, the rotor was cherry red! The brake caliper seized and toasted the rotor, pads, and brake line going to that wheel! This D is still under warranty so I called roadside assistance and they towed it to a dealer in Boone NC.... about 1 mile away from where it broke down. THe dealer was closed when I got there but was open on Sat. I called them Sat morning at 9:00 AM and they can't get parts until Tues at the earliest! Now here I was stuck in Boone NC, 200 miles away from home, The truck is undriveable and at a dealership. Chrysler will not give me a rental so I can get home and then get back on Tues or Wed to get the vehicle. I had to call friends to come and get my wife and I and then they are gonna have to bring us back there on Wed to get this vehicle! I am extremely unsatisfied with Chrysler and Dodge! I have 2 fords in the driveway right now with 10 times the mileage on them and not one seconds trouble out of either of them! The dealerships were great to deal with if anything did go wrong... (2 recalls). I don't think I'll ever buy another Dodge again! I am extremely dissatisfied![X(]
You make that decision because of one problem with one dealership, how come you didn't buy and Explorer instead of that R/T...cuz it's cool and the explorer looks like a family vehicle. It will get fixed and you will get it back. **** happens. I can't believe you didn't notice something wrong before you baked the rotor....like pulling?
This is an R/T It has enough power to drag the front wheel let alone a pull situation! Just wait... it gets better..... I picked up the vehicle yesterday from Ross Dodge in Boone NC. when they drove it around the building I checked it out. They had on the invoice that the rotor was replaced. They put the cracked, warped rotor back on the vehicle and thought they were going to get away with it! They immediately began to appologize and took it back into the service bay and finish the repair job. It took approximately 30 min. I got back on the road home.... 2 hr drive. When I got back home the left caliper locked up! My wife was driving this time. I called her on the cell phone and told her to pull over. Sure enough, locked up tight! I called Chrysler roadside again and they told me 35 min to get a tow truck. 45 min later they called back and told me it would be 1 1/2 hrs longer! I told them to cancel the tow. I drove the vehicle to the local Dodge dealer in Salisbury NC. No drop box, mail slot or anything! I called them this morning and they told me it would be 2 weeks before they could even look at it! I then had to get back on the phone with Chrysler Roadside and have the vehicle picked up and brought across town to the Chrysler dealership! They road tested and then took pyrometer readings... 110 on the right side.... 390 on the left side! This was from driving it around the block! Parts are ordered and will be here on Mon. Do you still think that this is one dealership or one glitch in Chrysler? I think not! I am now stuck with a vehicle that I have put 750 miles on and it has left me stranded twice in less than a week! Speaking of Explorers.... I would have much rather bought one of those.... I have a Ford Expedition with 172,000 on it. I have never had one seconds trouble out of it, I had a Ranger 4X4 with 160,000 on it.... same thing, no problems at all. I also currently have a Ford Taurus with 85,000 on it with no problems at all! Chrysler SUCKS!!!!!
When I first bought my Durango my original Service contract had the primary dealership as a local Chrysler dealer... I took it there a few times for it's first service and then a few periodic inspections. the last time the front rotors were just starting to grind and you could see the very beggining of gouging on the rotors. I asked them to replace the pads as they did everything else that was scheduled. When I went back to pick it up they said all of the brakes were fine so they did not do anything. once I got home I noticed that all of my change out of the center console was gone (about 16 bucks worth).
At any rate, I found a dodge dealer just as close, took it there for the brakes and a few other minor problems asked them if they honored my service card - they did, I have not had an issue since. I have used them at least 7 times since and they are awesome... Something about chrysler having a dodge in their shop, I just really think they don't like them...
Some kind of odd treatment, not to mention when I would go to the chysler dealership they always tried to get me out of the durango and into some P.o.S. Chrysler product... I know it is all Mopar but they have nothing I like.... To show you how they think of the dodge product I have an R/T when they try to get me to trade up *cough* to their product they would tell me that the Jeep liberty would be the newer 'like' equivilent... Not even a grand Cherokee, but a Liberty...
Try a dodge dealer...

Now. I can understand your dissatisfaction with the repair, and the vehicle, but give the dealer a chance. As far as Chryslers sucking, I've known of an 02 Taurus that burned through wiring and alternators like they were growing on trees, and Ford wouldn't do anything about it. My best friend bought an 04 F-150 that has had brake problems from day one. The truck was also badged to have a 5.4L engine and has the 4.6L. I've always had good luck with Mopars.
Hopefully the local dealer can fix your problems and make you happy.[sm=signs003.gif]
Ok to catch you up to speed.... Ross totally screwed up the service that needed to be done on the R/T! They were a Dodge dealer and a Chrysler dealer. They were also a 5 star dealer which really surprised me with the service I recieved. The second time it broke I took it to another Dodge dealer here in town.... they told me it was gonna be 2 weeks before they could even look at it! Chrysler roadside was called again and the vehicle was towed out of there! (3 1/2 hrs later) I had it towed to the local Jeep Chrysler dealer on the other side of town. They were AWESOME to deal with. They didn't have the parts but ordered them and went through the entire braking system. They evacuated all the fluid and refilled and bled the entire system. They road tested the vehicle and checked it from top to bottom! It is doing fine now but I am leaving on a 2000 mi. trip this afternoon. I am not taking the R/T just because I am gunshy of it breaking down half way there. We'll see how the R/T does over time. The funny thing about all this is that Ross called me yesterday and wanted to know how my recent service went! I basically blew them out of the water when I told them it SUCKED! They were very apppologetic on the phone and then they told me that the service manager would be back in contact with me! We'll see how that turns out. For now I am going to drive this thing around town locally and see how it does. I hope this is the last of the problems but time will tell. I do agree with the above post.... The R/T looks awesome but if it isn't driveable then all it's good for is a lawn ornament!
Pretty expensive lawn ornament, you should sell it if you are not driving it....just losing money on it anyway. I like mine.....I don't get the service I would like from my dealer either really........who does? I think they hire like one real mechanic and 50 grease monkeys that don't know what they are doing....cheaper pay scale LOL. When you go in you pretty much have to know what is wrong and tell them up front Don't call me until it's fixed. I always get a loner car and I don't return it until after I test drive my Durango.
I bet you could hear horror stories from Chevy, Ford, Bmw,etc owners...not all cars are purrfect....I worked in a Chrysler assembly plant building the Dodge full size van...it's no wonder there are problems the way they rush them down the assembly line. It's all about numbers to them, to meet the daily production schedule, if they don't the plant manager has to explain to Auburn Hills Mi, why they didn't, and it better be a good reason.

Sure sounds like you got a lemon, tell you what I will give you a couple hundred bucks for that piece of crap, take it off you hands and you won't have to complain about it anymore LOL.
sure I'll give you the bad rotors, calipers, lines, and baked out pads for a couple of hundred dollars! LOL So far so good on the repair work that was done at the Chrysler dealer. It has been running good and no more brake problems to date. I just changed the oil in it last weekend and I'm getting ready for the first tranny service within a few thousand miles. Things like this just get me so aggrevated... I am a maintenance fanatic! I mean this truck is always spotless inside and out, the oil is done almost to the mile, the brakes were inspected upon test drive (we had it a week before I made up my mind) All my vehicles are meticulously maintained and taken care of. Things like this just shouldn't happen to people that actuall take care of vehicles. I know people that don't change thier oil regularly and don't service transmissions on regular schedules and keep thier vehicles dirty and nasty and they don't have one seconds problem! Gerry Wood Auto in Salisbury took good care of us and the D. They made whatever was wrong with it go away. It is on the road and driving OK.... time will tell!
