Low Compression on Drivers Side Engine Bank
Hello All,
Seems like a great Dodge Forum. I just picked up a 2002 Durango 4.7, 2wd with 110,000 miles. I have no history on the vehicle. Here are the compression numbers.
Cylinder 1 = 140psi
Cylinder 3 = 95 psi
Cylinder 5 = 55 psi
Cylinder 7 = 50 psi
Cylinder 2 = 120psi
Cylinder 4 = 130psi
Cylinder 6 = 105psi
Cylinder 8 = 105psi
Since the really low compression seems to be on one side of the engine, I was thinking maybe the engine had been overheated and the head warped or gasket gave up. However there is no water in the oil.
Before I do anything I wanted your opinion. Should I just pull the one head and take a look or just go ahead and rebuild the engine. Thanks for the help.

Looks like your right on the number with a hot engine and head gasket issue. Check into this for a trick you can do. Look at the 4th post from me.

If it's just a head gasket by using the trick I included^^^^ then go for the head job and do both while you have it torn down to make sure it's good. Not to mention looks like you have a few lower as well in the 104 range.
