Default Rear Passenger side door will not unlock.

Hello, I have done a search for my problem only to come up with slightly different veriations of it. I am having a problem with my 2000 Durango rear passenger side door. I can open all other doors with the key fob, except this one. I tried to open it from the inside by pulling on the handle, but it will not open at all. The child safety lock is off and I am not hearing a humming sound when I hit the unlock button. With what room I had to work with, I pulled the inside panel off to see if I could open it that way. No luck with anything. The truck also has a Sidewinder alarm system which is used to lock and unlock the doors. I don't think my problem has anything to do with it being hooked up to the alarm system since all the other doors open. Plus if it is an actuator problem, would the door handle from the inside over-ride the lock and open the door? Thanks.

the back doors do NOT unlock when you pull the handle to open the door, you have to manually slide the unlock bar (or pull up on the ****) in order to unlock them manually and then open the door, and if that doesnt work it sounds to me like you broke the cable which controls the lock/unlock mechanism, and you will need to take the inside panel off and replace the cable, but i would suggest opening the door after you get the panel off by finding the lock itself and manually unlocking it, you should be able to get enough of the panel off from the top to make that work

I did try to pull up on the lock bar, it wont budge. All the connecting rods and cables are still connected. Not to mention that 1 hour before this it was working fine.

Well it sounds like a hardware problem. Sounds like you need to rip into it again.

I had the same trouble with right rear door. I waited until the lock opened on its own, (it would open every few weeks) took advantage of the opening removed door panel, lock assembly and tied door shut with seat belt for ride home. I replaced lock assembly since the power lock motor was not working correctly. If you go this way keep the correct torx bit and screw drivers with you.

Did you get the new part from the dealer? I will have some trouble with acquiring a new door mechanism because I am stationed in Germany. Maybe if you knew the part # off hand I could take it to the AAFES auto hobby shop and see if they can get it. Thanks.

I just looked at the left assembly and didn't find a part #, I did find some aftermarket units when mine was acting up. I'll look see if I can find them and post a link. Got some pics of the lock assembly if you would like to see.
