Default 1998 Durango Cruise Control

For several years, my 5.9 liter Durango's cruise control sometimes will not engage, or will not disengage except with brake application. The switch has been replaced, and no code has ever been returned with the OBD or Dodge code readers when the cruise control malfunctions.
Any ideas?

Ck under the dash at the big wire connector next to the colum, you may find some burnt wire or wires that are tuning green. You may also need to disconnect the connector and inspect. This problem could also make the horn inop as well.

I have the same problem with the steering wheel button. I'm curious to find see what develops from this thread. I just thought it was the button wearing out.

Is the cruise control set to only be turned on at a certain speed?

I have a '01 ,(I dont know how much similarity there is),The problem I had with the cruise Was that it work for a while and then cut out as It was engaged out of nowhere, and sometimes not engaging at all. The lt always stayed illuminated when cutting on though and stay on even when it would disengage. It would just unengage or not engage at all. It got to the point where it stopped working altogether.

I had this problem earlier and had R&R'ed the dash for an evaporator prob. It worked good for a while after that then started the same ole thing again. The only thing I thought the difference could be was that I had fooled with the brake lt switch. So I removed it and did a lil adjustment and it took care of it.

This switch has a little lever on on it and I believe it is like a preset/preload type deal when originally installing. It eventually burnt up and I replaced it. I havent had a problem since.

I know it is a cut out for the cruise. But I wouldnt expect an intermitent problem with it. I dont know its exact circuitry but it defintely plays tricks with the cruise. My switch has do not reinstall stamped on it. Whats the deal with that?

No idea there? For a few bucks it would be your best bet to get a replacement brake switch from the dealer and adjust then if that doesn't fix it replace the TPS.
