Pass,Side Rear brake locking up...

Question Pass,Side Rear brake locking up...

My passengers side rear brake is locking up. when i went to bleed the brake it took a while to get fluid to come out on that side, normal on the other side. After bleeding it did not lockup as bad for a week or so. Then started to lockup bad once again. Went to bleed it again just to see if the wheel cylinder was getting fluid and it was the same deal it was dry for a bit. Brake light stays on most of the time, no apparant leaks, rear wheel antilock brakes only and i changed the sensor on the rear diff. new drums shoes springs, no one wheel is getting hot.So I was wandering if anyone could give me an idea on what could be causing this to happen.

Get the brakes bleed. It also could be a bad caliper.

Drums don't have calipers, FYI I have had to replace numerous wheel cylinders on friends durangos, and I have to replace the RR one on mine. Common problem.

Well you didn't tell us what year?

2003 years have have 4 wheel disk brakes and 2002 -1998 have wheel cylinders.



Now it could very well be a bad wheel cylinder or a bad rubber line from the wheel cylinder to the metal brake line. Considering you are not sure what you have, I would take it to a shop. Especially considering you are taking on air!

I would say cylinder over brake line.. But brakes are one of those things you need to be sure of.. Take the old truck in..

take a close look at the rubber hose( not sure what its called??) that comes from the drivers side. it comes off the hard line in front of the drivers side rear wheel then goes over the axle, and then into a union where the brake lines run to each wheel. the hose will collapse and not allow fluid into either or one rear wheel. took me quite a while to figure this one out for myself, hopefully this helps you!! plan on breaking the brake lines as they are usually rusted up and will break when you try to disconnect them.

if its not the wheel cylider I'd bet on the hose being the culprit.
