Unhappy Dodge Durango 2001 heater problem

Hi Dodge fans.
I am new to this forum and want to both introduce myself and ask you a question. I live in Iceland and have a Dodge Durango 2001. Have had it for 6 years and have to say that it has been very reliable and no unusual brake down or repair.
Only problem since I bought it is a smell from the heater vents. Especially when blowing cold. Smells like a old rag mildew. I just had the a/c charged and found out that I have a small leak from the rear radiator, either the radiator or the pipes leading to it.
Another thing bothering me is the fan blower setting #2 is not working.
Is there a relay in the adjuster gone bad?

Does anyone know if the smell is a common problem in the Durango? and if so, what is the remedy?
Thank you,
Johann.

Thanks for the move over fascist!

Make sure that the drainage tub out of the passenger side floor board (in the engine bay) is not plugged.

Hello hydrashocker.
Thank you for the advice. I could not find any drainage pipe or tube coming from the passanger side. Do you know where I could find a drawing of the location?
This could definetly be the problem with the heater/cooler system. Just have not seen any water coming from under the car in a long time.
Thank you very much for your help.
Regards/Johann.

Hi dodge owners.
I found out what is causing the bad smell in the heater system. A growth of minute fungus in the A/C unit. There is a way to eliminate the fungus smell by using a special cleaner sold by Wurth and maybe some other brands but this is what i will do after the weekend. I will let you know how it turns out.
Thank you,
Johann.

Just above the passenger foot placement area of the floor board in the engine bay. Look from the bottom. Duranged408 just posted it's location.

Johann<-------------- Welcome to the forum and please update us on the name and type of product you are going to use?

Another newbie here thanks to all for the post. As for the setting #2 not working it is the old famous resitor under the passenger side dash. About 30 bucks. I have an 02 5.9 durango with 250,000 miles on her and have replaced it 3 times and going on number 4.

Thank you BUY AMERICAN for the info on the resistor.
I told you all I would get a special cleaner for the fungus existing in the heater system.
The product is from WURTH (saBesto) and is called Quick Fresh. The can is placed by the duct for inside air by the passenger side floor and left open with the a/c on full for approx . 10 min. Kills all fungus and smell. It really works. I am so glad that I did not have to tear out the dash for cleaning or replacing the heater system.
Thanks for all the support and advice.
Johann
