Default Automatic door lock feature on 1998 D

The manual says that the door locks can be set to lock automatically when the vehicle reaches 15 mph. It also says that it has to be activated by the dealer. Anyone know how to do this without having to go to the dealer?

It is a safety issue. Leave it alone.

First fasten the seat belt so the chimes will ring and you can hear them. My owners manual says to turn the key on and off four times in just a few seconds. Then within the next ten seconds press the driver's side door lock to the lock position. You should hear a single chime. Repeat this procedure to disengage the feature. But, mine is a 2001 Durango.

I think it is the same procedure.

He doesn't have to worry about it now. The D is going to be most likely totaled as predicted.

Just saying the thread doesn't need to keep being answered. Sad to see ANY Durango die!

Actually guys, the best scenario for me is to settle out with a total. I know what they are going to offer and it is $3,500 over what I can get on a trade in. I have lost my faith in the D and really want it out of my life. We came too close to a catastrophic event to keep driving it. I have already picked out a replacement and just waiting for the adjuster to bless the payout. Life goes on, only now with a new vehicle.
