Default Water pump replacement stubborn fan clutch nut

My water pump recently went out on my 98 5.2L Durango. Lucky me it has the pressed on pulley. I tried to remove it with the belt on a hammer. No luck. I removed the belt, and managed to put a u-bolt through one of the holes. Wedged a long screwdriver in there and pounded on it. The thing is not moving. Am I missing something? I have the "righty-tighty, lefty-loosey" thing down. Not sure what to do and don't want to pay someone $600 to replace the pump.
Thanks

get a BFH (big f*cking hammer) and a BFW(same thing just a wrench ) and bang on it until the nut loosens up, soaking it w/ nut buster (pb blaster, wd40 ect) should help to loosen up the nut and banging on it after putting the oil on the nut is supposed to help it work into the threads (as per the directions on the can of it that i have in the garage at home )

Default get a new wrench

you see the wholes in the pulley?? you need to head out to the store and pick up a spanner wrench. a spanner wrench will have two studs that fit into the wholes on the pulley and will keep it from moving.. pulling the clutch nut will still be a handfull.. get a buddy to help

Get a big hammer and a lot of beer. If the fan don't come off at least you can catch a drunk!

When I did it I took a pipe wrench (large) left the fan belt on and smacked it with a 4 lbs sledge. Also had a screw driver in the hole as well and everything locked down tight when I smacked it. The other thing you could do is get the right tool......LOL

You are correct. Lefty loosey on that. Turn the nut counter-clock wise.

How much could a new pulley cost? Can't you change the pump and the put a new pulley on there at the same time. Wouldn't that be easiest for maybe $20?

thanks everyone, I am working on it again this weekend. I soaked it with pb blaster and now I will make that tool. I looked around for a spanner but I would have to order one.
Is there enough clearance to remove the water pump with fan attached?

I will let you know how it goes.

I think so but it will make it harder in the long run.
