Default Overheating on 5.2 Thermostat??

so I had my oil changed last Friday, monday morring she started running hot. I turned the heater on to pull some heat off the motor. It was blowing cool air but when the temp dropped the heater started blowing hot air. Do you think maybe they added some coolant and got some air in it or would that have showed up earlier. I got a new thermostat but not sure where it is on the 5.2 I saw where the 4.7 is at the bottom where is the 5.2. What does the problem sound like to you guys??? I drove her to my kids football game (15 mints down the road) tonight and she did fine

HELP!!

Could be. The thermostat is located on the top of the motor where the upper radiator hose comes out of the intake manifold. There is a neck that attaches to the intake manifold and it sits between them.

Sounds fishy because the water pump runs doesn't need the T-stat to open. Output is directly off the water pump so it could have been an air bubble. Check antifreeze and ensure that the over flow bottle it full.

+1 with Hydra, this is a copy/paste from my own thread a couple of days ago on a related matter. Even though the engine and model year are different the symptoms and corrrective action sound familiar hope this helps.

OCT 2nd: OVERHEATING Sitting at idle while allowing battery to charge and working on rearranging/packing the vehicle for the MSP roadtrip I heard a warning chime from the back of the vehicle. Went up and noticed the CHECK GAGES light on and the temp gage on the high end of the range band. I shut it down for a bit and then about 30 minutes later drove it around the block to get some airflow across the radiator to cool off. Worked for a bit then shut down again to cool and start over. When we went to dinner it started overheating again, so I started back tracing my work. Could not for the life of me figure out, it had coolant, and apparent flow. Went to Pepboys in MD and got lucky in them still being there at 7:00 pm. Anyhoo, Got it in, had it checked and luckily for me it was just an air pocket in the system I would say most likely from the removal of the filler neck a couple of weeks ago trying out that new cap. Coolant serviced and replaced as necessary to remove air pocket. NO charge and manager allowed me to keep the remainder of the bottle just in case. Thanks Manny moe and Jack!!!!!

FYI BATTERY DRAIN was from resetting the XM antenna, it got disconnected and I had the ignition accessory on to check the connection, but I am good now.

+2 on the air pocket. Does the 5.2 have a bleeder screw like the 4.7s?

Year 2000 thru 2003 has a radiator cap in line on the top radiator hose. 1998 thru 1999 was it directly on the radiator.

Not sure if there is a bleeder screw on this portion on the 2000 thru 2003 neck but I think thats only on the 4.7L???????

Only 4.7s need burped.

5.xs just need ran with the cap off until hot and the core opens. Level will drop, refill, level will drop again, refill. Let it roll past the cap hot (don't allow overflow) and once it has rolled past, rest assured it has moved out the air. Recap, done. 5 minutes of watching and waiting for it to clear itself basically.
