No Rear Heat!
I bought a 2002 Durango SLT+ a couple of months ago and I have no heat coming out the vents in the back sections. The Temp switch on the center rear seat is turned all the way to the heat side. I am getting coolant flow to the rear heater core because the hoses are both hot to the touch underneath the vehicle. Is there an actuator motor in the right rear side where the heater core is at behind the plastic cover inside the vehicle? It has a 4.7 engine with the third row seating if that matters. Any advise would be appreciated.
dude, you only gave us a day, we dont live on here just waiting for questions to pop up
IMO it sounds like the blend doors in the rear are jammed or not working, i believe these are conrolled by vacume lines so check to see if any of those are off and get back to us

I finally found the problem to my no heat in rear problem. I had to take out the 3rd row seat and right rear side panel for access to the hvac unit. I found the blend air door actuator functioning correctly but the socket that it fits into is snapped off inside indicating that I will have to take the unit apart to install a new door and socket assembly. I will do this in the spring time when the weather is a little better to work in. The work involved will take a long time because it involves splitting the unit in half. I tied off the door in the heat position so now all I get is heat out of the rear vents. If people here have A/C problems where they have A/C out the dash but no A/C out the rear vents, this is the first place to check. Just a little FYI on my fix.
I know, I should have taken pictures of the hvac unit and circled the part that is broken. Sorry guys, I did not do that . The actuator motor that is towards the front of the vehicle on the rear hvac unit controls the vent door that is either deflecting the air up to the upper vents or down to the vent on the side panel. The actuator motor that is on the center of the hvac unit is the one that controls the blend air door for blending a/c with heat, a/c air only, or heated air only off of the heater core. I will tell everyone here that if you are not mechanically inclined, the hvac system on the rear of the Durangos are a PITA to work on. This info is only pertaining to Durangos with the 3rd row seating with the extra a/c-heat unit on the rear right side of the vehicle. You can tell very easily if you have the extra unit by looking up from the bottom of the vehicle on the right rear side, you will see 2 heater hoses and 2 a/c lines going up into the vehicle. When Springtime comes up, I will take pictures of the steps involved in changing out the blend air door from start to finish. I think that Dodge labels them servo motors, I call them actuator motors because that is what they are called on the Peterbilts and Kenworth trucks, same design and function.

Just a heads up. I found the small limiter arm on the white "****" was broken when I did mine. This I think allowed the actuator to rotate the door beyond the full heat positions and break the blend door where the shaft of the actuator is supposed to seat in the blend door. I found both pieces so I used epoxy for the repair. It may hold, it may not. For the limiter arm, I used a #6 self tapping screw in the rotating part of the arm. I know it's a hack fix and if it goes again I'll have myself to kick and repair it correctly.
I do agree, the rear HVAC is kind of a pain to work on, but if you're patient it will go well.

Hey PartsGedder, I also found the plastic arm has broken on mine too. Did you put that #6 self tapping screw in the center of the plastic **** that is supposed to connect to the inside door? I think that Dodge should have a better way of stopping that actuator besides that little plastic piece. Have you tried to stop that motor from turning by hand? You can't! Imagine the stress on that little cheesy piece of plastic!
I had the same problem with the same fix. The end of the blend door broke off and I glued the broke part back on, been working fine since. I also called the dealer to see about getting a new blend door anyway but they wont sell me just the door have to get the entire rear hear assembly, about $200. Ill stick with my glued blend door.
Fix took about 1 and a half hours total, pretty easy.
