Default 98 D Blower power

ok, here is the problem, sometimes when i turn on the heat or air for that matter i get a differant result, inconsistant power from thr blower, if it even turns on at all. some days i go to turn it on and it doesnt even come on, wont defrost or just throw from the vents, nothing at all. then sometimes i turn it on and at the hiest speed barely any air comes out, and it will fluctuate, but never blows very hard...its hard to put into words, but it is almost like the blower has a mind of its own and just changes power levels on its own, but never blows hard....what could be causing this? i am in hopes of solving the problem before winter hits, if not its gonna be a long cold winter...not to mention fogged up windshield to deal with

Most likely the blower resister is failing but not quite failed. It is accessible from under the wiper cowl external of the cap. About a $40 part and 2 hours start to finish on the replacement. 2001+ are inside and under the dash. 2000- are outside and under the cowl.

Replace the resister and let's go from there.

mine is a 98....i decided today to buy a cheap-o stick on your dash heater from walmart for $20 to hold me over untill i can try to fix the problem. i worked untill midnight tonight and when i got off work my windshield was all fogged up, i turned on my defrost and it wouldent come on, so i fired up my cheap little heater and it cleared it up, just took a while.....half way home my defroster decided to start working lol

I got a similar problem going on with my durango...
the blower doesn't work... atleast not on the first 3 settings. I can only get air to come out up front at the highest setting. If you turn it to the highest setting, let it run, then turn it down to a lower one, you can hear something whirring, and then shut off. Its as if it REALLY wants to work, but it just can't.
still haven't figured out whats wrong with it.
