Trans fluid change
Hello im new here.
Im not sure when it was last changed. I just bought 6q of valvoline +4 but I don't have a filter. Where do you suggest I get a trans filter?
Is there anything else I should do while im under there? Any adjustments or things I can tweak or mod?
Thanks
steve

you should be able to order the filter at any auto store, if not then go to the dealer (i dont have the part number) if i had to guess from the year of your truck you have the 4.7l v8, if so than there is nothing you can adjust under there while you do the fluids the trans behind this engine is fully electronically controlled, if you have the 5.9l v8 then you should adjust the transmission bands while you are in there i dont have the specs to do that hydra does and he shouldnt be lond in posting them for you
but please post up which engine you have so that we can give you more reliable information more quickly.
also FYI we dont wait around on here to help people we do this in our free time so patience is a virtue, you will eventually get an answer but it might take a day or two before it shows up, 8 hours would be a very quick return

4.7l... its in his sig.
Always change the trans filter when opening it up. I recommend the Mopar version directly from the dealer. It is significantly nicer/stronger/better constructed than the one used at the local transmission shop.
On your 4.7 mated trans, drop the pan, dump the fluid, swap the filter, close it up and refill ATF+4 only. Done. Nothing to adjust because it is all electronically controlled.

You have a 45RFE transmission.
Yes, you should loose about 5-6 quarts only.
Take out all the bolts except about 2 or 3 bolts on one side and slowly drop the pan and the trany fluid will pour out. Once you get it all the way down you can see the filters. Replace both of them. Wipe out the pan and be carefull to wipe off the small magenet that is inside the pan usually found in the bottom kinda on the side. Clean off all the metal fragments off this magenet and put it back in before install.
You could always install a drain pan plug while you have it down to make it a lot easyer next time.
You can get em for like $6 bucks.
