Default Trans overdrive issue?

My 03 Durango with 42K 4.7L on it has a few issues with the trans. It has hard downshifts very intermitently as well as a shudder upshift, also on occasion. But my biggest concern is when Im at 50 mph or over and final overdrive kicks in, my trans will downshift by itself, over and over and over, I will be steady on the gas on a flat road cruising and it will jump in and out of overdrive, but it only seems to do it when Im driving it never when a shop road tests it.

What can this be? My dealership says theres nothing wrong, and my warranty runs out in 800 miles and I need this fixed before I have to pay out of pocket.

I dropped the pan and had the filter changed at Ammco about 10K ago, never had the trans flushed.

are you sure its shifting, and not just the torque converter locking up on you?

Well ya the dealership is going to say nothing wrong with only 800 miles to go. I would be making it known that i would not stand for them saying nothing is wrong when i know there is.

I wouldnt know the difference, but I can feel the trans drop down and the motor revs up.

As far as the warranty its aftermarket and has nothing to do with the dealership.......it will bring them $$$..

what I was thinking was that when I had the stupid ammco change the trans filter, they didnt refill the trans with the proper fluid, would a trans flush at a dodge dealer maybe solve this? I dont want to throw money at it if its not gonna fix it.

The wrong fluid would do this (erratic shifting). If they installed the wrong fluid and you can prove it then make them do it right with you watching!

I hate to say it, but you might have to do the flush. Get a tech guy to go with you and get it done. Don't back down or you might loose 2 or 3 grand!

So I still have this problem, update though, Ive had the PCM replaced, relay replaced, and the valve body replaced, still the same problem, the dealer gave me back the truck and said they didnt know what was wrong with it, and to basically keep driving it until it breaks or throws another code.......

If the difference is only a couple hundred rpm, I'd guess it's your torque converter locking up. Had the same problem with mine and it turned out to be the throttle position sensor (of all things). Never had any codes either. Changed it out and solved the problem.

how did you diag that? Ive had mis-shift codes before, I forgot what they were, the dealer replaced the valve body based on the codes, but that didnt fix it.
