Default Hopefull New Durango Owner

The lease is almost up on my 2006 ram 2500, i am now looking at a durango to replace it with (needs have changed) I lost out on a 1998 that was clean and in quite good condition by 30 min, but found a 2000 loaded with leather, body in super condition......but two things i noticed with it (could only look so closely as it was 8:30 and dark) One is that there was a wining from the rear end, is there any issues with rear ends on these trucks?, Also the steering wheel has a loose spot but appears to be mostly before the first universal in the steering coloum. As i havent had time to reserch these trucks at all yet any help would be great. I would like to go back to look at the truck tomorrow in the daylight armed with a bit more info or things to look out for. truck shows 175,000 KM and i believe has a small 8 in it (where do i find the engine size or code)

Thanks Chris

Noise in the rear end is not common. Have them service the diff and inspect the gears for issues.

Intermediate and upper steering column issue a know issue. It knocks as it is wearing out. Do NOT let them do the TSB to eliminate the noise. It will come back. Instead, have them replace the two pieces. It's about $400 complete at the dealer.

All in all, if they do nothing, offer $1000 less and do the fixes yourself with the savings.

Thanks for the info, i am going later today to give it a good going over. The main thing for me was the body and interior was mint, has new tires, milage is not to bad. I can do brakes, shocks u joints fluids etc and have a few good local mechanicsto do anything that i cant. Unfortunatly i dont have a lot of confidence in the local dodge dealer.
And just as a prejudgemnt of what it needs was thinking of $1000 less then asking for an offer. Hope it goes well as this would be a good truck for my family and work

Cheers

Take it in for a 128 point inspection before buying it. Most shops will do it for like $30 bucks and WELL worth the investment!

They (the dealer) want you to only look at the body and interior. All the expensive items are elsewhere. If that is all you are looking at, good luck on your pending money pit purchase.

All I was saying is that I want something that I didnt have to do a $2000 body job too. The consumables like brakes, tires shocks etc are easy too deal with, but a trashed Interior and panels rotted out are a PITA.
As it goes, I went over it again on Sunday, in the daytime, offered the lady $2500 cnd. At first she said no, then called me 20 min later and said OK. Picked it up today goes well and should have to certified by the weekend. It runs well, ALL the electrics work and should only need a few things to safety and maybe a steam cleaning then should be good to go. The thing that impressed me the 2nd time I looked at it that the frame had most of the original black paint on it, the others I looked at were both rusted alot (the 2003 the most)

Great deal Chris!

We can get that thing up speed! That 2000 has an on board OBD-II built in. I did miss the motor size and rear gear ratio?
