Default 3-4 shift problems

Hey guys,

I could use a little input on my problem. I have 1999 Durango 5.2l with 99000 miles on it. The truck wants to start in 3rd gear. You can manually shift from 1st, 2nd, to 3rd, but no overdrive. Reverse works fine. If you drop shift from N to D it will try to work but still lags. I had the codes pulled by 4 different shops and they all said to change out the electronic solenoid pack. I had the whole package changed, new filter and new fluids. Problem stll exists. I checked the tranny fluid levels after the truck is warm and it is low. The Dealership put the truck on the diagnostic machine and said that it needed further manual diagnosis. Meaning $85.00 an hour untill they find something. I already have almost $600.00 in it and nobody knows what the problem is. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

hydrashocker is on the right track, governor and transducer. Or you can replace the valve body, it will come with all solenoids and filter. Also adjust the bands too.

They replaced both solenoids and another part that I am not exactly sure what it is, but it all goes on the same plug. Will I have to drop the pan again to adjust the bands? Could the PCM cause this problem? The Relay is good and the Tranny fuse is good.

pcm does not have much of an effect on your transmission its the bands which cause problems, and yes you have to drop the pan to adjust the bands

The transmission is mostly hydraulic so again the Governor Solenoid.

Can you replace a valve body? I am by no means a mechanic. I just can't afford to just "try" things and see if they work.

You take the pan off and unbolt the valve body and re-install the new one.

Sounds like you should probably take it in if you've never done this kind of work before.....IMHO
