Default Passenger Automatic Lock not moving

Hey everyone, I've been driving my 2001 durango now for about 8 months before my dad had it since 2002. Worked great up until a few months ago when the passenger's door lock was only moving some of the time. Sometimes it would take 4 pushes of the button for it to unlock.

Now it doesn't move at all. The only way to lock or unlock the door is to manually push the lock up and down. --It's very inconvenient.

I've been looking around to see if I could get it fixed but the dealer want close to $300 for the job because of "labor intensive".

I'm gonna take a guess it has to do with the door lock actuator, but someone else should confirm this. The part goes new for like $80 places but I was wondering if a 2000 or 2003 door lock actuator would fit as well because the junk yards have a few 1st gen durangos but the years are not mentioned.

Also, does anyone know how hard this part is to replace? I've taken off my door trim before to replace my speakers, but never dealt with the door lock actuator. Advice is well appreciated.

Sounds like the actuator.. I haven't seen the one in the durango yet but ive had to change out 3 of the doors on my neon.. As for difficulty, its pretty much the same as the speakers.. same 3 screws or so to pull off the doors inner then ur mostly at it.. its most likely behind the doors insulation, so simple pull that away from the door and your there.. note: probably torqxs screws..

once the skrews are out pull the door panel up b4 you try and pull out
2 or 3 skrews at the bottem of the panel
1 behind the door lever(pull it back to the open position youll see it)
1 up around directly behind the exterior rear view mirror
i think thats all

My 2002 SLT+ did the same thing. Worked intermittently until the door finally wouldn't open at all. Dealer had to replace the door latch by crawling across the console and removing the RF seat. Bummer and expensive-cost me about $375.00

Ya know, that's the second time a link didn't work for me. Just go to the DIY/FAQ section. It's there! LOL!
