Default Engine Code 0622

Hey Gang,

I installed a rebuilt computer for the second time today. You can read about the first time here. https://dodgeforum.com/forum/1st-gen...ode-p0203.html

Immediately after installing the new computer I get error code 0622
Alternator Field Not Switching Properly. I checked the battery voltage while the engine is running and it was 12.30

Prior to the new computer I was getting 0601, but the Durango ran great. I put the old computer back in and the battery is charging (13.94) My friend at Napa says some computers control the voltage.

Should I send the computer back for warranty again. Could there be something on my end that I am missing.

The PCM has the main voltage regulator but only into the electrical system after the PCM.

If you got that off the battery or leads from the alternator the the alternator is bad.

Not for sure what to do next. With the old computer and a good battery, I maintain a charged battery. I drove around for two hours with the headlights on and when I got home the battery was 12.64.

With the new computer the battery is dead after about 1 hour of driving. I don't think there is a problem with the alternator, but I could pull the alternator and have autozone check it.

Any thoughts

The PCM sends a current to the alternator field and without that field in operation you get the error code:

P 0622 Alternator Field Not Switching Properly

The PCM that you got that code with has a bad lead out to the alternator thus the alternator doesn't operate and the system pulls the power it needs from the battery just as if the alternator went out. As this happens the power will drop in the battery until there is lower current than the needed voltage necessary to run the motor and it shuts down.
