My D was purchased in 02 and has never been back. Is there newer programming? If there is do you guys think it is necessary, good idea, good insurance?

as far as i am aware there is no new programming, and mine has not been flashed (also an 02, even if it is a late model year truck) i wouldnt worry about it unless you have a problem, im not even sure if they would do the flash for you, and if they would youd probably be charged for it

also if there was a flash done there should be a sticker on the PCM to tell you what version is on it and when it was done

Don't go to the dealer for a death flash!!!!!!

You can go with companies like www.superchips.com or www.sctflash.com/ or www.hypertech.com for a hand held tuner.

Or you can do a complete custom flash from makers like www.bgperformancepcm.com/.

ok ok ok got it just wondering. I got a 2006 diesel and there has been a few flashes out since I got it.

Death flash?

detunes the engine to reduce pinging and a couple other things that are not problems on every truck, its really a crappy band-aid fix for a bigger problem, but definetly NOT something you want
