First I couldn't shift from out of Park, twice, now I'm hearing a grinding noise from the left front when I drive and when braking. Any ideas?

 

Im guessing its a 4.7... Grinding noise near the hub is either brake pads-rotor or wheel bearing. I cant remember what the issue with the interlock was but mabe someone will be able to give you a heads up..

year/make/engine will help, the most common issue with the brake interlock is (as best as i can figure out) a bad connection to the brake light switch, just unplug the wire from the brake light switch (the one right above the brake pedal) and clean both sides with contact cleaner, and dry out completely (i used compressed air, but i also have a compressor) and then put back together, if you ever get stuck, unplugging that switch will allow you to shift out of park, do this with the truck off and the e-brake on, and then plug it back in and start the truck in nuetral and you will be good to go, i have not had the problem come back since i did what i outlined above, and the grinding noise is most likely a hub bearing, but check the rotors/brake calipers to make sure everything is lined up correctly

 

lift the front end off the ground-safely- and spin the tire describe the part/area thats making the noise

 

Looking today I saw that the rubber boot piece that connects to the left front tire is deformed, one part looks flat, while the right boot piece looks fine. This seems to be what causing the grinding noise.

 

that sounds to me like you are describing the cv boot on the front axle i think you would have to replace the entire half-shaft (from the differential out to the affected side), but there may be another way to do it that im not aware of

 

You can rebuild them but it's easyer just to replace it.
