Unhappy 45 rfe transmission, 4.7 02 durango

I have a 2002 Dodge Durango SLT that acts like it wonts to die every time I shift it into any forward gear. The RPM'S lope from 200 to about 2200. My guess is the transmission needs to be rebuilt. So what I want to know is if anyone else has had this problem and it happens to be something simple?

Have you tried replacing the TPS or is this not a surging issue?

Its a little hard to understand,is the durango stalling when putting into gear or the engine races from 200 rpm to 2200 rpm? Could be TPS and maybe vaccum leak. Is the ck engine lite on ? If so have the stored removed and post. That way we all have more information to help you with.

Default Probably not TPS

Ok, let me see if I can clarify the problem. The truck idles fine no surging at idle. Drives in reverse fine no surging. With the tranny in any forward gear and foot on the brake at a complete stop.......sometimes it dies.........sometimes it surges from 200-2200 rpm. Take foot off brake........drive down the road..........whines just a little almost unnoticeable...........stop at a traffice light .......acts like it wants to die and surges from 200-2200 rpm. If you drop it in neutral at the light the engines runs just like you would expect it to. Drop it back into drive to take off ........may die.......may not.

Cool IAC woth checking

Dan,

That is an intersting thought. I will check on the IAC as well. However I must ask if the engine would idle fine in park or neutral if the IAC was bad? When the engine is placed under load does the IAC attempt to readjsut idle speed?
