I read the article and it is interesting, but what I got from it was that the metals they were talking about were from the engine wear and not from the oil.

yeah the article that i read was about oil after being used. sorry i should have read it more carefully. my fault. but i still prefer castrol or valvoline.

yeah there is so much crap on the web on oils its unreal. oh by the way did you see that mobil-1 is sueing valvoline because valvoline stated that mobil hasnt reached the standard for API standards for synthetics becasue when they reformulated there oils two years ago they took out there additives and replaced it with fillers.

That oil was 5W-30 Mobil One Fully Synthetic and not 10W-30. 2 different animals and the funny thing is it appears that 10W-30 and 5W-30 were used in what seems like a (2002 Camaro) test vehical. The first question I see is that it appears that 5W-30 is used in very cold environments the same as 10W-30 in warm and neutral to hot environments just like us. Well from what the report states, it only snowed one time during the test. Seems to me they were using an incorrect weight lubricant for the environment....Wink....Wink....And that leads to oil Shear!

Next thing I see in this test was the users had no "other testing done" so nothing to correctly compare it to. They did a base line test with a half way good testing facility. However, everyone of these laboratory facilities can test your oil but they are just that, a facility that by their one admittance doesn't know the base line numbers.....I find this VERY irritating!.....(Senerio) Here we have a lab that doesn't even have the base line numbers for the product they are testing on an everyday basis......LMFAO!......Is this real?.....(Shaking head)

You have no idea what this user used before the test and what engine molecular make up of that engine is. Also please understand that without the actual base line numbers there is no true testing perameters. It would take thousands of tests just like this one only with better base line numbers to do a test like this with actual values.

Now the brake down is ware the from the engine and suet is where the Iron is coming from so there is no point to the Iron topic because those numbers came from the engine and not the lubricant.

This is why I speak directly from the MSDS. Mobil One is the only oil that is in mass production except (Shell ROTELLA® SB Synthetic-Blend) that I know of that only uses Polyalphaolefin oil base. Hell, look at Royal Purple, they won't even list their oil base!

thanks for clearing that up. and yeah like where i live i need some thing that can go from thirty below one week to 50 degrees the next.

Mobil One Fully Synthetic 10W-30 can do all of that no problem! It has a water like pour point of -58 F!!!!!! Try getting an oil to do that!


On the hot side of the spectrum, it has better viscosity improver's and wear protection because it is a TRUE Fully Synthetic. Bottom line, you have to read the MSDS sheets but if a person doesn't want to get into this kind technical information then the second next thing that one could do is stick with a top name brand Fully Synthetic and you should be just fine.

Oil is like taking about spark plugs or fuel. Everyone has their personal favorites.
