thomsonc,

+1 on Blackstone. I have used them for years. That is the ONLY way to test oil and to know exactly what is left in the oil you are removing.

Are they collaborating your AmsOil engine oil had a good TBN number for 12,000 miles?

Even at full price of $8.70, and you run the oil only to 12,000 miles and not 25,000, it comes to only $2.90 a quart (counting three oil changes).

If anyone is charging $23 for a quart of amsoil motor oil, that is nothing more than highway robbery.
If you think the additives in their oil can last that kind of mileage then go for it but, you should follow you manufactures recommendations because they only have Billions of $$$$$$ in building your motor. But then again, Amsoil self proclaimed can make it better with only little $$$$ ??????

Anyway, I did finally find out that they make the base stock out of (PAO) so it would be comparable to Mobil One Fully Synthetic but:

5qt X $8.70 = $43.50 Amsoil

1 - 5qt = $23 Mobil

Now I don't know about you but Unmodified, Mechanically Sound, Recommended (by them not the Factory)?????? Please show me this??????

I did finally find this though from Amsoil's site:

AMSOIL base stocks ARE formulated from the very BEST full synthetic PAO base stocks in the world. AMSOIL is the only manufacture of oil that will not compromise quality for price.

SERVICE LIFEAMSOIL Synthetic 10W-30 Motor Oil is recommended for extended drain intervals(25,000 miles is what they are talking about here) in unmodified(1), mechanically sound

Again, oil is like spark plugs, everyone has their favorite. But if your going to through it out there do your homework, that's all.
