OK, it has 175K on it. It had oil pressure problems this past year similar to the thread about the 5.9 loss of oil pressure, which y'all pointed out was probably a pump going bad. It previously spun a main bearing (I did see it, and it was spun) allegedly due to sludge. It also had tapping in the top end. it also lost valve lash adjusters. I'd say it was about time on this motor.

The challenge is that I don't know what's wrong with it, and I am not that mechanically inclined to do tear into it and rebuild it. I mean, hell, I'm a systems analyst, not a mechanical engine genius.

Agreed that it's probably better to rebuild what I have and put it back in, but I don't have the skills - and I'm afraid it'll cost way too much over putting in a lower mileage motor and just driving it.

Ya if you can pull the engine, then maybe that's what you need to do is just find a replacement. If you want to tackle trying to rebuild it, then go ahead and start pulling the engine apart. You can just do a simple rebuild, just pull the motor apart down to the block. Take your block and complete rotating assembly to a machine shop and have him clean the block, and turn your crank. He will tell you how much he turned so you can purchase the correct bearings.

Then I would purchase new piston rings after he hones the cylinders, and put everything back together. Oh and prob need to either replace or clean out the oil pump and pick-up. There is prob metal all in there.
