Default 03 4.7 Durango Died out of the blue

She has been a good girl but the wife went to pickup the kids and it died not to restart. Never had a problem with it.
Alt was tested good
Fuel pump relay was switched with the AC good
It will turn over but nothing
Its got to be fire or fuel
How do I test to see if it's getting fuel.
Did the 3x key trick and P Done no codes.

And i'm getting ready to test spark.

Brother said crank sensor
Thanks for any help
Dan

could be the crank sensor but before jumping to that

when you turn the key on do you hear the fuel pump priming?? especially first thing in the morning you should hear it prime for 10 or so seconds when you turn the key to start it will come from the back of the truck,

how old is your battery? if it is more than 4 or 5 years old replace it, a low battery can cause all sorts of problems with these trucks its really odd . . .

In order of simplest and easiest to eliminate.

+1 on Fuel pump, make sure it is totally quiet and you shoule hear a slight whining noise from about under the left rear passengers seat once you turn the key to run, it should be for about 5-10 seconds, this is the fuel pump priming the lines from the tank to the injectors so they go right to the cylinders when you move key to START.

+2 on battery, These new fangled comouter controlled engines, the battery has to be just right to start.

The crank sensor is a gamble. I had on on my 98 Jeep Cherokee 4.0 that went out, Would not start to save my life. I took it in and $275 later and a new crank sensor I had no other issues afte that, There is basic voltage test that can be done but in my case, since every other sensor checked good, it was basically like this.

The time and labor of a full by the book troubleshooting of the crank sensor would not be cost effective and with a over 95% probablilty rate of it being the culprit I elected to try it and it worked great. It did not throw a code but all I can say is it started right up after r/r the sensor and no further starting issues.

Let me calrify the cost effective part....... You can spend multi hours of wire chasing and still find it bad and be that much further behind or try it. I believe the symptoms sound like mine

I am not sure what a sensor r/r cost these days but if you eliminate the fuel pump and battery this might be a good starting point.

Crank position/Angle sensor 03 Durango 4.7 $29.89 This is a quick search butshould get you started in the right direction. SInce I didnt r/r myself I cannot verify the price or easiness of the r/r so check with your qualified service associate.

Good luck!!!!

It sounded like it was pumping but I need to have the wife turn on the key and me be under to be sure.

I know the battery is weak as the wife killed it. But I did pull the 1 year old battery out of my Cherokee and that did not fix it. However it did kinda start, started but never got any real rpm out of it. Hit the gas a little and died. Only did it once.

My 00 Jeep has never gave me any real problems.
Other than the $175 in a simple break job freakin mexico Jeep
And I beat the hell out of that Jeeper.

On the fuel rail there is a test port. Carefully depress the valve and see if fuel sprays out under about 50psi so be careful. You might need to get a tester and should be above 50psi. If your good then shoot for spark.

Pull a plug and place the lower end to a good ground and attach the coil over. Crank it and look for spark. If no spark then shoot for the Camshaft Sensor or Crankshaft Sensor.

Low batteries reek havok on us, esp the ones with factory alarms. Although doesnt sound like your issue but try locking/unlocking the drivers side door with the key

I have spark
It did start up for about 45 sec today & died not to start again.
Is there a fuse or just the relay >?<
No fuel pressure on the rail
Now is there a easy way to unplug the pump so I can make sure that it is getting power.
Don't want to spend $300 if I don't have to.
Thanks for all the help so far.

There is a fuel pump relay so swap it first.

Next is to pull the tank and replace the fuel pump.
