forgive me for my very long delay, had a death in the family then house problems made my truck go on the back burner....anyway still does it its a 5.2 havent driven the truck in a while so hope it dont blow up on me

Sorry to hear about the death in the family and house problems. If the tickng can be heard at start up and then goes away after it warms up, it is the lifters ticking and it will cause no damage to your truck. How many miles are on it? If you lift the hood up and start it up when cold, where does the ticking come from? On top? Off to one of the sides like exhaust manifolds? Front of engine? Lots of variables here and we will need further answers to help you. We can only guess unless we get further info, we do not like to lead you on to the wrong path.
