Default Compass recalibration???

Does anyone know how to recalibrate the compass in a 2000 Dodge Durango? I notice that when I'm heading north, it says east. Just wondering if it's even possible to do so. So, I have a 2000 Durango 5.9 2wd w/ 160K miles. Thanks!

Check owners manual, but basically there should be a set up menu, on the overhead panel then once you get to the calibration steps, then just drive around in a circle, a school or mall parking lot on a early wekkend morning might work. I believe that the secret is to get a full 360 circle in one motion. Also try to keep open area and not get too close to the buildings to avoid interference.

im not sure if you have to do anything with the menu, but find an open parking lot and drive in circles, you will probably need to get more than one full circle in (id say just drive in a giant circle for 5 min, if you hold the wheel steady you should be able to just keep the same loop indefinitely)

In the owners manuel it wil tell you you have to keep a certain speed up. The wife durago did the same thing. Not hard to do

Reset the overhead by holding in the 2 buttons till it resets. If it still reads the same you need to get a compass cause I think you might not know true north. True north is different than what everyone thinks it is.

im pretty sure navigational compasses (like the one in the D's) use magnetic north, and the ones in the truck can be calibrated, and how would it know true north unless you knew the offset and told it where it was, or had gps helping you

3 norths; grid north, true north, and magnetic north... grid north is map north.. true north is the actual north and magnetic north is where the compass will point.. you have to take in effect magnetic declination to get true north.. but you wont really need that unless your really looking for accuracy..

+1. It takes about 3 or 4 seconds to flash and it's done.
