265-70-16 Goodyear Wrangler RTS tires?
I have 265-70-16 Wrangler RTS tires, and I got a gash in my sidewall. When I went to get the tire replaced, I think the technician told me these tires are going to be discontinued. Does anyone know why? Also, I want the best tires to protect my 2 yr old son and pregnant wife. So any suggestions on what is the best tire for a 2003 dodge durango sxt would be greatly appreciated.
oh and as a side note, i think these tires are only 2 1/2 years.
thanks guys

if your truck is a 4x4 i would replace all 4 tires anyway, alot of guys on here like the all terrains, i ran cooper discoverer ast's for a few years, until they went bald and they were good to me, but most all terrain tires will work, and there is no one right answer, buy brand name, all terrain and in the same size as what you have and you will be fine
Consumer reports seem to prefer the General Grabber HTS tires. I called up my local shop to see if they carry them. They are getting back to me. I hope people here have had good luck w/ this tire because they seem fairly inexpensive for such good reviews.
I like the BFG All Terrain KO series but there are many good ones out there. Look at you driving style, conditions, off/on road, towing, and anything else you do. If you do all of this, then I would go BFG's.
Little late to this thread, but I'd like to add my 2cents worth. The Goodyear Wranglers are CRAP. My first camping trip with my brand new Durango in 1998, I ran over a stick and punctured one of the tires. Not talking a log, not talking some big thorny monster, we're talking a stick. Like any 10 year old would pick up off the ground and spend the day walking around with, whacking trees and bushes and rocks with. Just a plain old, 3/8" diameter stick. POP! Shooooooooooo.....
Luckily, a buddy that was on the trip with me had a plug kit, and I had a 12v air compressor (thought I'd brought that for the air mattress, guess I was wrong!). So, less than 1K miles, first puncture. In the next 19,000 miles, I'm sure I had at least three more punctures on those tires, and they were short lived.
First tire swap? BFG All Terrain TAs (this was pre-KO). I'm now at about 107,000mi on the Durango, and on the second or third set of BFGs (can't honestly remember), but I've never had another puncture since. For me (and my wife and kids who are the primary M-F users of this vehicle), it's BFGs and nothing but.

Michelin X-radial LT is my vote. Almost 3.5 years Over 50K miles and with normal rotation still have about 6000 miles left.

Before you step on the good year wranglers, try a set of MT/Rs... You will never give them up... In the end you always get what you pay for.
As Magic monster mentioned the lt's last forever. My stock set (whom is with the new owner) is on 120,000+ miles

Well, geez, Kevlar, sure... if I'm gonna wrap bullet proof vests around my tires! LOL Doesn't much matter at this point since I've only got one Wrangler left, it's the spare, and I'm gonna try and unload all 5 rims plus the tires they be wearin' in another week or so after the big-brake upgrade job that I hope is about to come to fruition.
