ehh I guess 17 on the highway isn't too bad for the 4.7L AWD. my dad has a 4.7 with the 2 wheel drive setting and can lock in the 4 wheel drive and he gets 20 on the highway. AWD comes in handy in the winter but not so much on mpg.

the dakota with the 3.7 and a manual is NOT that efficient, there is a guy ON THIS SITE who has a 3.7 manual dak and the BEST he was able to get practicing ALL the hypermiling tricks was 25 or so

Well shrpshtr325 I should have actually said I have the lock in also. The settings I have is AWD, 4High and 4Low. He just has 2High, 4High and I don't know about the 4Low. I wish I had what I have plus the 2 wheel so I could use it when it's not slick outside.

You have a AWD T-case and "He" has a Full Time 4X4 T-case. The Full Time 4X4 T-case only came in the 2000 year version and the 2001-2003 R/T has the AWD T-case unless it was Canadian in which case the 4.7L came with an AWD option.
