hydra, what'd we tell you about posting drunk, he has the AWD t-case, his father has the PART TIME 4x4 t-case as indicated by the 2 HI and 4 HI settings on the 4wd swith

lol thanks and my dad's is a 2003 also. I know I've heard that the 4.7L AWD was canadian. I just looked at my sticker and it was shipped and sold to a dealership in Logansport, IN, so somebody must have had that option put on when they bought it. Also, I've been wondering does the AWD seem to not be as fast as the 2wd durango's. I didn't know for sure but to me it just feels like mine is a little slower than others. That might be a dumb question but oh well.

THe AWD is a 4X4 so you are pushing the front end and you also have the weight of the transfer case. Also the transfer case is heavier and could have a non direct gearing transfer.

A 2wd will always be faster if everything else is the same except the 2wd and 4X4.

hydra is right, the awd is going to be slower than a 2wd model, as the t-case is splitting the power (most of the time AWD will have a 60/40 power split, which is part of why i prefer a locked t-case, for all my power ) and they have a heavier t-case than a part time 4x4 as hydra said, so the weight, and additional inertial force that the engine needs to overcome in rotating the drive-train causes the differences you notice

Lately, I've eased off the go pedal and just enjoy the drive. All the speed demons can have their fun. I know I'll be able to get out of the slick stuff with my part time 4X4 when I need it.

alright, thanks. well that sucks. I was just curious about it cause I did my own 0-60 and it took like 10.5 secs. I've seen most people doing about 9 and others with faster times. I'm going to do a tune-up soon, I didn't know how much that would help with power. thanks for the info.
