Default I'm New and had a quick question about Programers

Hello Everybody I'm new to this forum and had a quick question about what programmer would be best for my 2002 1st gen Durango 5.9L. I also have to get a new ECM from the codes it just shot a Auto Zone, but it's not running horrible however my mileage is noticeably lower 13mpg? Well that's all that I have for know any tips would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Welcome to the boards!

What codes did you get?

There are many options, but are you sure that's the issue?

Hydrashocker,

Tremonton aye, We used to live in Logan and I drove a wrecker for a a body shop there so I went to Tremonton all the time weird. As for the codes it was a During power up condition the Ecm detected 3 incorrect check sums code P0601, probable cause ECM faulty.

The only noticeable problem when driving is during cruise control the throttle will surge slightly where it's too annoying to keep the cruise on. Its a dead spot in the throttle that if you accelerate slowly you can get it to surge without the cruise on so I was thinking TPS but then about 6 months later we got the check engine light, but I still think that it's weird especially since the mileage has dropped too?

As for the programmers I'm looking for something to improve mileage more then anything it's got pretty good power.

Nice to see a local around here!

1. Replace the TPS.
2. You can buy a PCM from http://www.bgperformancepcm.com/ as a replacement or you can go OEM replacement then look into these:

Hypertech 52000
Superchips 3865

You can buy a OEM PCM at Ebay for like $200 and get a plug and play (Pre-flashed) unit.

A P0601 isn't good as that is usually a PCM going out. But the surging issue is 99% sure of a bad TPS.

I would first change out the TPS then check the grounds in the dash board area and also at the PCM and battery. Watch it closely and if the issue goes away then pick up the tuner and if not then go B&G replacement PCM or a OEM replacement from Ebay and a tuner.

Bingo! The TPS fixed the Surge and my mileage went up a ton! So at least that's good I reset my codes and my check engine light stayed off for the entire time that I was driving and for a couple more starts but then came back on later in the day during a start. So I shot the codes again and P0601 ECM again so I guess that's where I'm at I'll be looking for a computer.
