Default '03 Durango 4 wd operation question

My front wheels are very hard to spin when jacked up. I can see that the driveshaft is turning on the front diff as I spin the wheel. I could not find a thread that explained the operation of the 4 wd and transfer case, but on my 93 Bronco, when it was out of 4wd, the driveshaft did not turn. Is this normal operation on the Durango?
Thanks,
Dan

You Durango does not have axle disconnects so when the tires are turning, the axle and drive shaft are also turning.

Thanks....the Bronco had "locking" hubs as I remember, to disconnect the axles. You had to go into reverse to unlock them.

The axles are always engaged. When you engage the transfer case it only provides power to the drive shaft and that puts power to the front end.

The older hub setups did 1 great thing, it kept you from pushing the front end and that helps with fuel mileage. This in NOT so good in other areas though, for instance the CV's or U-joints don't move very much so the lubrication of those components does not happen causing failure. It's kind of a catch 22.
