Default qustion about towing

Hey guys, my dangos engine is shot. (I'm not terribly dissapointed since it has 165,000 miles on it) anyway, I've got a friend in FL that found an engine down there for a swap and he's gona do it himself. (Seasoned mechanic for enterprise rentals) I have a HD tow bar and am going to tow it 600 miles south to his place. What should I do to prepare the truck for the trip?

Remember to put it in neutral. Are you gonna tow it back? If so, why not make it as light as possible? Remove the spare, any unnecessary junk from the back, any valuables, etc... JMHO.

Ok, now I've got an older coworker telling me that I should remove the front and rear driveshafts, and its easy. (Doesn't sound easy) lol. He says 2 u-bolts per driveshaft and they come out. Opinions?

Remove both front and rear driveshafts if it is being towed with all 4 wheels on the ground. If the front is raised and the rear is on the ground, just remove the rear driveshaft. Most people will say that you can just put the transfer case in neutral and tow but that is not what I would do, how would the bearings get lubed if the internal parts of the transfer case is not moving around to sling the oil onto the bearings? Just play it safe and remove as mentioned.

Ummm...she did say that it is shot so that procedure says to start the engine....I would still play it safe and disconnect the driveline esp. since she says the engine is shot, that is why I said to do that.
